It’s no secret that Queenstown is known for shining a spotlight on extremes. There are the extremely gorgeous breathtaking views of Lake Wakatipu and of course extreme sports like bungy jumping.
One thing the “Adventure Capital of the World” isn’t as well known for, yet, is extreme food. Queue the rainbow hued world of Balls and Bangles.
We momentarily weighed the benefits of going with a traditional plain bagel, but we seized upon the opportunity to do donut shots instead. These donut (or doughnut) fiends decided to prescribe themselves a Ferrero (which consists of hazelnut chocolate topped with salted macadamia nuts) and a peanut butter & jelly (a luscious donut topped with peanuts and pretzels and filled with raspberry jam ).
Putting aside the sheer joy factor of shooting shots of hazelnut and peanut butter directly into your donut (or your mouth), these sugary delights were delicious. What made them even tastier was the fact that Balls and Bangles reduces the price of their donuts toward closing hours.
We bought our donuts late in the evening since we had a crack of dawn scenic flight scheduled over to Milford Sound the next morning and nothing was going to be open for breakfast that early. (I’d highly recommend that flight by the way.) We got loads of compliments from our flight mates and our pilot regarding our breakfast choices.)
Balls and Bangles also has donut balls for the mild sugarholics and freshly baked bagels for adrenaline junkies in need of serious carbs.
If you’re craving a full blown sugar rush, look no further than Balls and Bangles’ unicorn inspired over the top freak shakes. With names like hospital pass, surely you won’t have to worry about a candy overdose, right?
Let’s face it, bungy jumping and jet boat riding takes a lot of energy. If you’re looking for a sugar-coated pill that will help you power through a day of site seeing in beautiful Queenstown, Balls and Bangles has the medicine you need.
