Redwood City is perfectly positioned in the Bay Area. It’s nestled 27 miles south of San Francisco and 24 miles northwest of San Jose. Given that Redwood City is smack dab in the middle of the Bay Area, it should come as no surprise that the city is home to a number of tech companies including Box and Evernote. Redwood City’s equidistant proximity from the Bay Area’s two main hubs makes it an ideal place for city folks to catch up with peninsula peeps.

Vesta’s Wild Arugula Salad with Toasted Hazelnuts, Shaved Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese and Apricot Vinaigrette

With a menu chock full of handcrafted wood fired pizzas and small plates, Vesta is an amazing place to break bread (or a pizza for that matter).

Home Slice – A Green Olive Pizza at Redwood City’s Local Favorite Vesta

During our visit, we gave the green olive pizza (castelvetrano green olives, fresh mozzarella, pecorino cheese, basil, fresh garlic and chili flakes) and the rosemary potato and bacon pizza (potato, white cheddar, mozzarella, rosemary, applewood smoked bacon and an optional farm fresh egg) a whirl.

In addition to Vesta, here’s a list of other neat little local spots we love across the Bay Area and Silicon Valley.

Both pizzas were awesome, but the sausage and honey pizza was the clear winner during our taste test. The pie took tomato sauce, spicy Italian sausage, mascarpone cheese and fresh parsley and married it with honey and Serrano chilis. The sausage and honey pie was the perfect combo of sweet and spicy plus it was a unique pizza we’ve never come across anywhere else.

The pizzas are big enough you could opt to split it with another person, but you could certainly house a whole pie solo if you want.

Proof is in the Pudding – Vesta’s Mexican Chocolate Bread Pudding

Since sharing a pizza is caring, you might be able to save room for dessert if you bring a buddy. Vesta has a Mexican chocolate bread pudding that’s served topped with Grand Marnier sauce and fresh whipped cream. They also offer scoops of gelato from Lush Gelato in Berkeley (the salted dulce de leche pictured below was divine).

This year Redwood City will celebrate its 150th anniversary. Whether you’re a Redwood City resident who’s looking for a laid back local place where you can celebrate RWC’s sesquicentennial or if you’re just a weary Bay Area commuter looking to meet someone in the middle (of the peninsula), Vesta’s warm atmosphere should fit the bill.
