Cape Town, South Africa is often referred to as the “Mother City.” The oldest city in South Africa has loads to offer including hip shops like SAM (South African Market), but amidst all the hustle and bustle it can be difficult to find a quiet private space to stay. For our first stay in South Africa’s capital city, we opted to bunk at cozy More Quarters.

Since we had three people, we opted for Apartment #102 which had an en-suite bathroom, lounge, kitchen area and a sleeper couch.

We received a warm welcome at the front desk from Thandekile Majeke. Weary travelers are immediately offered fresh mint iced tea along with scrumptious little morsels called lamingtons (little Australian sponge cakes coated in chocolate and sprinkled with coconut). Everything about More Quarters in Cape Town feels a bit like coming home minus the whole hassle of making baked goods from scratch yourself.

Majeke did a fabulous job adeptly helping us figure out the best streets in Cape Town to walk down. She also snagged us delicious dinner reservations (at Kloof Street House that evening and at Mama Africa the following night) and even scheduled a shuttle to take us to and from Table Mountain the next day. Her helpful tips and tricks saved us time which was invaluable given that we were in Cape Town for less than 48 hours. (She eagerly pointed out to us that we could avoid the lengthy lines at Table Mountain by purchasing our cable car tickets in advance online before we drove to the entrance.)

In the evenings, just before guests would head out for dinner, the More Quarters staff would put out a tray with port for the guests.

More Quarters strikes the perfect chord. The apartments are a skip away from bustling Kloof Street with its cute boutiques and busy cafés, but they are also tucked away just enough so that you don’t have to deal with street noise. Its attentive staff, exquisitely decorated rooms and delicious treats make you start thinking about your next trip to Cape Town before you’ve even left. If you’re in need of a little comfort in South Africa’s Mother City, look no further than the cozy home base founder and CEO Robert More has created at More Quarters in Cape Town.
