There are certain places in the world that are synonymous with a single dish: Philadelphia and its Philly cheesesteak. Poutine and Montreal. Chicago and deep dish pizza. Tropical Key West is best known for its sweet and tangy Key lime pie. Since Pi Day (March 14th) is only a few days away we figured the timing was ripe for another pie post.
For over 20 years, the folks at Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Shoppe have selflessly braved countless numbers of picturesque views and soft sandy beaches in order to produce one of the best tasting key lime pies in the world.
A classic slice of key lime pie at Kermit’s consists of a tart key lime flavor poured on top of a delicious graham cracker crust topped with light and airy whipped cream. You’d think Kermit’s might leave perfection alone, but oh no, they up the ante on this classic Southern dessert.
Kermit’s takes sour citrus and turns it into a sweet treat by popping a slice of key lime pie on a stick, freezing it and dipping it into a luscious Belgian chocolate coating. We were skeptical that the key lime pie bar version could hold its own against the traditional pie slice, but the chocolate version was the clear (albeit somewhat messier) champ.
It’s worth noting that Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Shoppe takes its name seriously. It isn’t just a shop for light and velvety key lime pies.
The Duval Street location is chock full of citrus treats. In addition to key lime pie slices and full pies, you’ll also find key lime salsas and sauces, bath and body products and even key lime lip balm.
Perhaps the best thing about Kermit’s is that you don’t have to settle for key lime chapstick, you can actually bring a whole pie back with you sans an extra carry on item.
Whether you’re hankering for a taste of the South or just in search of the perfect Pi Day present, Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Shoppe has you covered. You can have the real deal, a full pie of Key West deliciousness arrive at your door for $38.95 (which includes the cost of the shipping container, dry ice and the Fed Ex dry ice handling fee) plus overnight shipping charges. Who knows, you might even decide to give Kermit’s strawberry version of the key lime pie a whirl.
